Miscreants tie up family, loot doctor’s residence in Mapusa

A doctor’s family in Ganeshpuri, Mapusa, was held captive while miscreants looted cash and jewellery worth around Rs 50 lakh, fleeing in the victim’s car. Police are investigating to track down the culprits.

This comes amid a surge in thefts and attempted robberies across Mapusa over the past three weeks. A shop in Feira Baixa was burgled, though the culprit was later arrested. Three individuals from Maharashtra were caught at Mapusa market for mobile theft, with phones and chargers recovered.

Temples have also been targeted. At the Bodgeshwar temple, thieves stole cash and tied up the security guard. Locals helped apprehend a mobile thief from a fruit shop after CCTV footage identified the suspect.

Petty thefts are on the rise as well. Two women were caught on CCTV stealing a pair of men’s sandals from a shop during the Friday bazaar in Mapusa market. In another incident, an attempted theft of antiques from a Feira Alta shop was foiled by alert women; three suspects escaped, while one was apprehended.
